Product Description
The Hydraulic Orange-Peel Grab (also known as Orange Peel Grab, Cactus Grab or Spider Grab) is designed for materials that cannot be efficiently handled with traditional rehandling grabs. This specialized grab excels when materials are too large, irregular, or when superior penetration and intrusion into the material pile is required.
The grab features a unique multi-shell design with 4, 5, 6 or 8 curved shells that close around the material like a flower. Depending on your application, the shells can be configured as open shells for maximum penetration, half-closed shells for balanced performance, or fully closed shells for fine materials. Each configuration is specifically tailored to your material type, size, and operational requirements.
Construction: The shells are manufactured from Hardox® 500 Tuf for exceptional wear resistance and toughness in the harshest conditions, while the main frame is constructed from high-strength steel S460 for optimal strength at minimum weight. This premium material combination ensures maximum durability and extended service life.
Every orange-peel grab is completely custom-designed for your specific application. Whether you're handling scrap metal, demolition waste, large stones, biomass, or other irregular materials, we engineer the perfect solution with the right number of shells, optimal weight distribution, and ideal geometry for your operation.

Frequently Asked Questions
For which applications is a hydraulic orange-peel grab most suitable?
Polyp grabs are ideal for large, irregular materials such as scrap metal, demolition waste, large stones, tree trunks, and bulky waste. They are particularly suitable when materials are too large for rehandling grabs or when better penetration is needed.
How many tines/shells does an orange-peel grab have?
Polyp grabs can be equipped with 4, 5, 6 or 8 shells depending on the application. The number of shells is determined by the material type, size, and specific requirements of your operation.
What is the difference between an orange-peel grab and a rehandling grab?
A polyp grab has multiple curved shells that close around the material like a flower, while a rehandling grab has two large shells like a clamshell. Polyp grabs offer better penetration and grip for large, irregular materials, while rehandling grabs are better for bulk materials and smaller items.
Can an orange-peel grab handle heavy scrap such as steel plates?
Yes, our polyp grabs are specifically designed to handle heavy scrap including HMS1/HMS2, steel plates, and large metal parts. The shells are made of Hardox 500 Tuf for maximum strength and wear resistance.
Can I combine a rotator with an orange-peel grab?
Absolutely! We offer various rotation options including mechanical swivel heads (270°), hydraulic rotators (360°), and slewing rings with hydromotor. A rotator significantly improves efficiency and positioning accuracy.
